Truly open collaboration: more choice, more innovation for utilities.

Utilities need truly open, standards-based Smart Grid solutions from a collaborative ecosystem of partners dedicated to delivering the lowest cost, highest performance innovation and choice:

  • Best-of-breed products that enable utilities to avoid vendor lock-in
  • Interoperable solutions that fit every utility’s needs and that leverage existing investments
  • Flexible, future-proofed products that adapt to continuous innovation

Grid Net, GE and Intel collaborate.

That’s why Grid Net is collaborating with GE Energy, Intel, and the WiMAX Forum to develop leading Smart Grid solutions that are open, standards-based, interoperable, secure, resilient, high-performing, and cost-effective, including:

  • GE Energy’s next-generation smart meters and smart routers, which are bundled with Grid Net’s PolicyNet NMS software.
  • Grid Net’s PolicyNet Smart Grid NMS™ software, of which core components are based on the Common Open Policy Service (COPS) engine1. PolicyNet enables utilities to cost-effectively manage the Smart Grid with software that is open, standards-based, reliable, scalable, extensible, and secure.
  • An open, interoperable Smart Grid communications and networking platform based on WiMAX, the leading 4G wireless broadband standard. WiMAX is supported across the globe by the WiMAX Forum, a consortium of 500+ industry leaders in the communications ecosystem, including Intel and Grid Net.
  1. The Common Open Policy Service (COPS) Protocol is part of the IETF’s Internet protocol suite. COPS specifies a simple distributed model for supporting policy control for advanced networking services, such as Quality of Service and Security; and now Smart Grid network and application services.
