Grid Net Platform
The Grid Net Platform is a Machine-to-Machine Network Operating System for the Smarter Grid. It extends command and control capabilities from the substation to the meters at the edge of the grid, and then into the premise if desired. The true power and value of the Grid Net Platform is the ability to deploy and manage multiple applications for advanced grid operations.
By contrast, think about how mesh-based systems work: The brains are in the “head-end,” and it directs collectors to interrogate the mesh of meters in the field. Since none of the meters are autonomous, they rely on direction from their collector at all times. This is barely tolerable in a meter reading scenario, but completely untenable in any more complex situation.
The smarter grid requires a constant flow of information not only to and from the back office but between devices throughout the distribution grid. The Grid Net Platform provides a secure foundation for communicating this information, and once in place, applications of all types leverage this common infrastructure. This allows, for instance, real-time consumption readings to trigger demand response activities in neighborhoods and optimizations to the larger distribution grid if needed. This is impossible even with a full deployment of a mesh-based system.
Grid Net has a fundamentally different and fundamentally better approach to the smarter grid. The Grid Net Platform’s unique software architecture, embedded intelligence in every networked device, strict security at every layer, and focus on speed and efficiency is second-to-none.
